01

Separate product cost from project cost

The fixture price is only one part of a project. Include drivers, mounting accessories, wiring, controls, labour, access equipment, transport, taxes and future maintenance.

02

Define the lighting requirement first

Record the space dimensions, ceiling height, work performed, operating hours and target illumination. A lower-priced fixture is not economical if additional units are needed to achieve suitable light levels.

03

Compare lifetime operating cost

Estimate annual energy consumption from total installed wattage and expected daily operating hours. Also consider replacement access, driver life, cleaning and disruption when a light fails.

04

Approve a sample and specification

Before ordering large quantities, confirm colour temperature, colour rendering, glare, beam pattern, finish and driver behaviour using a sample or an approved specification sheet.

05

Request a complete written quotation

The quote should state model, quantity, unit price, taxes, delivery, lead time, installation responsibility, warranty and replacement procedure. Site conditions can change the final project cost.
